If you are reading this article, you probably clicked on it because you desire to change something about your relationship with your food, your body, or perhaps the numbers on the scale. If that is the case, I have been there, in many different ways! I finally came to a place where I was able to find a healthy balance in each one of these areas and finally feel good in my skin, all while enjoying food in a healthy way! Living in this place of balance has allowed me to reach my happy weight and maintain it through pregnancy and many different life seasons.
What is a "Happy Weight" you ask!?! A happy weight is where you feel good in your skin, your body is functioning in a healthy way, and it is a weight you can maintain without striving or using unhealthy means to get or stay there.
My weight has fluctuated many times in different seasons- but one thing has remained the same, I’ve found peace and contentment with my body through it all, thanks to these basic principles!
- Look to please God over man when it comes to taking care of your body. Honor him rather than conforming to the world.
- View health as a lifestyle that allows you to enjoy all things in moderation.
- View movement as a gift, not as a way to burn calories. Find movement you enjoy, and do it consistently.
- Choose food based on how they make your body feel instead of thinking only about calories or macros.
- Get off the scale. Let your body take the same that God designed it to be without striving. Remember, your smallest self isn’t always your healthiest or happiest self. Come to a place of acceptance and peace with the body that allows you to be healthy and balanced.
If you have spent years looking to reach your happy weight, I would encourage you to pray and ask our Heavenly Father to give you wisdom as you surrender your body, (and/or any area of your life He’s telling you to surrender) over to Him. After praying, start to listen to His leading. Don’t try to figure it all out. Simply listen to God, and ask Him to show you in His word and in your heart what the next steps are to take, and be obedient. He is the creator of your body, and He will lead you in caring for it so it can settle at the weight it was designed to be! xo Katie
