Do you know that every day there is a war going on?!? You can’t see it, because it is spiritual, but it is going on whether you engage or not. The war that is taking place is aimed against our minds. I was a Christian for years before I realized I had an enemy, Satan, who will do everything in his power to prevent us from walking in God’s good plan for our lives. One of the primary ways he does this is through deception, trying to bring all kinds of negative thoughts to our mind. You see, John 8:44 teaches us that Satan is a liar. He attempts over and over to get us to believe things that aren’t true. That’s why it is critical for us to learn how to renew our minds with the weapon of God’s Word.
Romans 12:2 says, Do not be conformed to this world...but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind. When we see things like depression, anxiety, confusion, fear etc. these are often strongholds in the mind that have been established. Strongholds are first established in the mind; which is why 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 instructs us to take every thought captive. Behind a stronghold is also a lie, a place of personal bondage were God’s word has been replaced by an unscriptural idea or personally confused belief that is held to be true. Behind every lie is a fear, and behind every fear is an idol. Idols are established where ever there exists a failure to trust in the provisions of God that are ours through Jesus Christ.
The good news is, God has given us the mighty weapons we need to fight this battle and win! The weapons that pull down strongholds are; God’s word, the blood of Jesus, and the name of Jesus. Strongholds are pulled down and confronted bondage is broken as the spiritual weapons of our warfare are engaged. We engage these weapons as we cast down anything in the mind that is contrary to Gods will. We are instructed to pull down (demolishing strongholds) every high thing (pride) opposed to the true knowledge of God and make it obedient and in agreement with Gods word and will.
We must remember that every day we are in a spiritual battle, and we must fight with spiritual weapons. God has given us His Word as our main line of defense against the lies of the enemy, and when we engage in the fight using His spoken word, pray in the name of Jesus, and trust In the redeeming power of His blood shed for us, we can walk in total victory and freedom!
