If you have clicked on this post, then there is a good chance you are a fellow momma; And if so, I hope these recipes make life a little easier when it comes to feeding your little one!
I will start by saying that Maddie was a very picky eater from the moment we gave her the very first solid, which was mashed sweet potatoes at six months old. She shuddered and spit every ounce of it out of her mouth, and this progressed with everything we tried fro the next two months. I felt very discouraged as I imagined what life would be like with a picky eater, and it left me feeling defeated as I made countless batches of homemade baby food, and threw almost all of it away.
At eight months, I finally tried giving Maddie some organic store bought applesauce, and for once, she swallowed a solid and didn’t spit it out! Over the next month I started adding applesauce to various baby food purees and slowly she started taking them, in small amounts, and she eventually would suck down an entire pouch with apples and other fruits/veggies! This felt like a victory, although I knew I had to get her to try other textures than baby food purees to prevent textural issues later on.
When Maddie was about nine months old I started making purees with some softer chunks, and she hated it! I decided that I was going to skip the in-between stage of chunky purees, and move onto a soft solid like a pancake, and see how she liked it.
My very first actual “solid” recipe was a three ingredient baby food pancake, and she gobbled it up! From there I have made all of the recipes in the PDF download for her, and she has loved every one! After about one month of eating softer pancake type solids, she is now enjoying even more foods, such as steamed cauliflower and broccoli! I am convinced that texture and flavor are key, and these recipes helped bridge the gap between purees and actual “solids”.
As she grows and she is able to eat more foods, I will continue to share my recipes that are a hit with all of you! If your little one seems to be a picky eater, don’t be discouraged! The very fact that you are trying to feed them something nutritious means you are winning! Just try to be patient with them and try making food in small batches so you don’t feel like you are wasting food. It may take some time, but as you keep trying, you may be surprised by what a good little eater they can become! I hope these recipes make cooking for your little one a little easier, more enjoyable, and helps them take the next steps in expanding their palate!
