Sometimes I forget just how endlessly creative God really is. I tend to picture Him working in big, obvious ways. You know, splitting seas, moving mountains, doing the impossible. But lately, He’s been reminding me that He is just as creative in the small, personal details of our lives. He loves to surprise us. He delights in honoring the desires of our hearts, even the ones we whisper about or hold onto quietly, unsure if they’ll ever happen.
I’ve seen it firsthand with my kids recently.
For over a year, my daughter had been talking about how badly she wanted to go to the beach for Christmas break. She dreamed about it, planned imaginary trips, and kept bringing it up. Honestly, my heart ached because I wanted it for her too, but I knew it wasn’t realistic. We had just opened a new division of our business, and with college expenses on the horizon for my son, a beach vacation just wasn’t something we could do.
About a month before break, one of my daughter’s best friends came to her and said, “I get to invite a friend to Florida this year, and I want it to be you.” Her friend’s dad had free airfare and hotel through miles, so the only thing we had to cover was food. Just like that, what seemed impossible became possible. She had the vacation of her dreams. Not only did she get to experience it, but our whole family was blessed by watching God’s faithfulness unfold. It was such a reminder that He sees her. He cares about what she cares about. And He is more creative than I could ever be in providing.
Then it happened again.
Recently, both kids started talking about how much they missed Colorado, our home state, and how much they wanted to visit family and friends there. We told them we’d try, but realistically it probably wouldn’t happen until next summer. And then, out of the blue, I received a job offer that was already a blessing, but it came with a requirement. I needed to travel to Colorado within two weeks. The timing lined up perfectly, and the kids got to come along. Once again, the Lord wove together the details in a way I never could have orchestrated.
Both of those moments left me in awe. They were gentle but powerful reminders that God is infinitely creative in how He answers prayers and honors the longings of our hearts.
And here’s the tie-in for all of us, especially when it comes to our health. How often do we box ourselves in, thinking we know the only way forward? We push harder, try another diet, tack on another workout, or get discouraged when we don’t see progress. But God doesn’t operate inside the tiny boxes we make for ourselves. He is infinitely more able than we are to guide us, to meet us in the middle of our needs, and to bring about change in ways we never could have dreamed up.
The creativity of God isn’t just about parting seas or writing grand stories. It’s about the beach trips, the surprise work assignments, the unexpected doors opening. It’s about Him caring enough to meet our hearts where they’re at and lovingly reminding us, “I see you, and I’ve got this.”
So, if you’ve been feeling stuck in your health, in your prayers, or in your everyday life, remember this, God is still writing. He is still weaving. He is still creating. And He is so much better at it than we are.
