Real talk: In both of these pictures I felt beautiful, strong, and most of all, healthy; But that wasn't always the case.
My body has gone through so much in my 35 years of life, from disordered eating, extreme diets, to pregnancy, postpartum, and almost everything in between. Don't get me wrong- I have no intention of encouraging anyone to focus on their body, or for someone to feel less than because they saw someone’s “before & after “ photos; Rather I share because I want to share my story of hope.
Extremes were the "norm" to me for most of my teen and early adult years. As a teen I was introduced to diets, and it led to extremes which turned into cutting out entire food groups, and eventually starving, bingeing and purging. But also the opposite extreme was true as I looked to find an answer in my 20's. I was fearful around food, calorie counting was a must. Social eating made me nervous, as did skipping a workout. Fear, punishment, anxiety controlled every decision I made about food and exercise...And heaven forbid I actually enjoy something "unhealthy" without guilt, much less feel confident about what I saw in the mirror.
Never a middle ground. BUT GOD.
One of the most important things God has taught me is that everything is a balance. The physical and spiritual aspects of our health. Leaning on Him and doing our part. Choosing health but also finding enjoyment. It is all a balance. What I have also learned is that God doesn't want perfection, He wants our surrendered hearts; For it is there that freedom is found.
If you have struggled with finding balance, ask God what steps you can take next to see health in your mind, body & spirit. No matter how far you have traveled down any road of extremes or just feeling confused by all of the information out there...Believe that He will bring beauty for ashes. He is able to make all things NEW and we want to give you the practical tools to get there! Will you join us?
