This week we are celebrating eight years of life with my daughter, who we call our "Miracle Maddie"—and I can’t help but reflect on just how truly miraculous her story is.
There was no reason, medically speaking, that I should have been able to get pregnant. I hadn’t had a period in over ten years due to hormonal imbalances. But against all odds, God gave us Maddie.
When I was 38 weeks pregnant with her, I began bleeding heavily. It was terrifying. I was told I should have lost her. When she was delivered, doctors discovered the placenta had torn 80% away from the uterus. And yet—miraculously—Maddie was completely perfect. Her heart rate never wavered. I was induced, and just five hours later, she was born healthy, whole, and full of life.
That day changed me forever. But this morning, as I reflected on her birthday, the Lord reminded me of something even deeper: every one of us is a miracle.
Psalm 139 says that God created our inmost being—that He knit us together in our mother’s womb. I remember studying DNA in nursing school and being blown away by the complexity and detail of the human body. Nothing in nature compares to how God designed us.
As a former labor and delivery nurse, I watched miracle after miracle enter the world. Every time a baby took that first breath, the room filled with awe. The presence of God!
David wrote, “I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” And he was right.
Maybe today you’re doubting your purpose. Maybe you're praying for a miracle, or maybe you just need the reminder that you already are one. God knows your name. He thinks about you. He designed every inch of you, and He holds every detail of your life in His hands.
So today, as I celebrate eight incredible years with Maddie, I want to encourage you to celebrate the miracles that God has done in your life; Including you! The next time you look in the mirror, remember—you are looking at a living, breathing miracle. Life is a gift.
