Do you enjoy working out?
A fun fact you may not know about me is that I LOVE, and I mean truly love and enjoy working out. Crazy? Maybe! 😆 But this wasn’t always the case! In fact, I used to think I could never step foot in a gym and actually feel anything but embarrassment. I was too weak, small, uncoordinated, and NOT athletic. Once I overcame those lies, I had new ones to face. I then believed exercise had to fit into a box that included burning calories and cardio machines, and that it was a torcher tool used to burn calories.
That all being said, no wonder I hated exercise, not only did I feel inadequate and insecure in my ability, I used it as punishment for the calories I thought I needed to “burn”. It wasn’t until I tried a group fitness kick boxing class about 10 years ago that it all changed for me. I felt silly and stood in the back, but I felt free knowing this was something I could do to move my body, and it was actually something I enjoyed! That class broadened my horizons as I tried dozens more, which I still go to and love; I also love going to the gym and even enjoy writing my own workouts from home!
No matter where you are in your fitness journey today, be encouraged! Instead of trying to change everything overnight, think of your journey to health as just that; A journey! Don’t beat yourself up if you feel you haven’t stuck to something or can’t seem to feel confident or comfortable in a gym. It took me years to get there! I recommend starting with a buddy and try out as many things as possible that allows you to move. Keep trying until you find something that makes you say, I could do this again soon! You may not always feel like doing it. No one does; But pick the thing that keeps you coming back and go for it!
Be patient with the process and keep trying new things. I have found that the more I change things up, (with music, types of exercise, and equipment), the more fun it becomes! I promise you CAN feel fit, confident, and enjoy movement in the form of exercise! You may never be the strongest, leanest, fittest in the room, but who cares!?! Become the strongest version of YOU and you will never feel better! God created our bodies to move, and He can help you find what moves you if you just ask for His guidance! If I found a love for exercise, anyone can! You could even become a crazy like me and learn to love it one day! 👏🏻 👊🏻💪🏻
