“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
Ahhhhhh, spring! It’s just around the corner. There’s so much to love about the Spring. With it comes longer, warmer days, buds of colorful new life, and the enjoyment of being out enjoying God’s glorious creation. There’s something else that often accompanies spring – diets! This time of year, the number of people considering some form of a diet plan skyrockets. Pressure to look and feel good in summer clothes or a bathing suit beckons. Summer vacations at the beach draw closer. We become bombarded with ads and social media posts about quick fixes to achieve that “bikini body.” At Dashing Dish, our mission is to help people find joy and freedom from diet traps. Why? Because diets don’t work or last.
You may be surprised at one crucial yet often overlooked birthplace for temptation. Do you know that your eyes can help you enjoy a victorious spring and summer and keep you from falling prey to diets and fad food plans? It’s true. Most temptation begins with a look.
One of the soundest ways to save money is to stay out of the store. The same rule applies when you want to avoid the lure of diets. Don’t go window shopping for plans! Stay out of the “store,” so to speak when it comes to dieting. Make a diligent and intentional decision not to go “shopping” for the next fad diet or fast-fix food plan that everyone is talking about on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, you name it. Determine to guard your heart and mind by using careful and strict filters about what you allow to influence you. The simple act of diligently guarding eyes has profound effects on your thoughts. Instead of chasing empty possibilities, ask God for a guiding and guarding promise over your health journey or a blessing to declare over your body. Then, set your face like flint and refuse to be moved. May you be strong and steady in the Lord today.
