Today Sean is sharing is first ever guest post on Dashing Dish on this Fathers Day interview from a new Dad!
One of the things that I was most looking forward to before Madeline was is born was watching my husband become a father. I knew he would be an amazing dad, because he was before she arrived!
Watching my husband anticipate the moment that he would become a dad, I couldn’t help but think about how our Heavenly Father loves us, knowing that not only are we His children, but that He is the very one that fashioned and formed us from the beginning!
Whether you have experienced this kind of love for a child of your own, or you have a wholehearted love for a spouse, family member, or even a friend, all of us know what it is to love someone deeply. Now think about what you would do for that child or person and all the ways you think about them, show them love, and care for them on them on a daily basis. Now think about how God, the maker of the Universe, values us as His children! When I think about the way that He loves us, it truly is hard to fathom, knowing it is a deeper love than we could ever understand this side of Heaven.

As a tribute to Father's Day, I thought it would be pretty incredible to get a first hand look at this love from a father to be! My husband Sean filled out this interview before we had Madeline, and I expected to still have her in my belly when I published it...But now my husband has the gift of his daughter being with us on Fathers Day!
I pray that my husbands words speak to your heart today, and even give you an inside glimpse at how the Father loves you!

What are you most looking forward to about becoming a dad?
The thing I am looking forward to the most is meeting her for the first time. I get so excited looking at our ultrasound, and to actually see her in person, I can’t even imagine. Looking into her eyes for the first time, holding her, and knowing that she is part of me. What a miracle.
People often tell me that the love you have for your child gives you a new revelation of God’s love for yourself and how he see’s you. I’m excited to experience that.
In what way do you think it will be special to raise a little girl?
I know raising a little girl will have it’s challenges but I’m also excited for those challenges. This world has so many horrible messages it sends to young girls about beauty, self worth, value, etc. I want her to know that she is beautiful because God made her just the way she is. I also can’t wait for her tea parties, imaginary friends, and all the emotions :)
I also can’t wait to terrorize any boys that may try and come her way (in the very very distant future).

In what ways has the Lord prepared your heart to become a dad?
I would say over the past couple of years the Lord has really taught me just how effective prayer is. When it comes to praying for myself, or my wife, and now our daughter, seeing how those prayers come to fruition has been an amazing testimony of God’s faithfulness in my life.
How has your perception of your Heavenly Father changed since you found out you were expecting a child of your own?
It honestly hasn’t changed much. I’ve always known that God loves me, but I do think when I meet her for the first time my perception will change. One thing I know for true is that God desires to give us, his children, the desires of our heart. He is the God of miracles and the only reason Madeline is coming into this world is because he is faithful to his word and promises.
How do you think your role as a father will impact Madeline’s view of our Heavenly Father?
In my own experience with my Dad, I know it has a deep impact on your child’s view of who God is. I pray that I will be the best example I can be of an unconditional loving God that desires and delights in obedience but also gives unending grace when needed.

In what ways do you think having a child will impact your personal walk with God?
Having a deeper revelation of how God views me. She’s not even here yet and I’ve already noticed myself wanting to buy her everything I think she would want or need. I want to provide for her and make sure she is taken care of. I want to protect her. All things that I know God is looking to do for me since I am his child and he loves me even more than I could ever love my daughter.
What do you think she will be like? Personality and appearance?
Haha. Katie and I have already talked about this quite a bit, as I’m sure most parents do. I’ve imagined her as a blonde curly hair (duh, Katie), with big blue eyes (I have blue eyes), and dimples. I think she will be cautious but curious, and not afraid to try new things or meet new people. Since day one, Katie and I have been praying for her to have a voice that will worship the Lord. We both think she will be able to sing, which is funny because both Katie and I can’t hold a tune to save our life.

What do you think will be some of her favorite hobbies or things to do?
Since we found out about her, we’ve been praying over her on these things. I personally love golf, so I think she will have a love for it because of me. If not, I could never force her to like anything, but I hope she loves it :) I think she’ll love cooking with Katie, helping her in the kitchen. I know she’ll love our dog Zoey and all things that run around on the ground.
What would be the first thing you’d want to say to her?
You are my miracle.
