There is something I want you to hear today, and I pray it sinks deep into your heart. If the enemy is fighting this hard to knock you down, it is because God has a powerful plan for your life. The devil does not waste time attacking what is not a threat.
If you have been facing a battle in your mind; Fear, anxiety, doubt, discouragement, confusion, or relentless mental battles, it doesn't mean you are broken. It may mean you are a threat.
Today I want to share part of my story and what the Lord has taught me about standing firm when your mind feels like a battlefield.
My Mind Felt Like a Jail Cell
As many of you know, I struggled with eating disorders as a teenager. I felt trapped inside my own thoughts. Years later, after a one year battle with undiagnosed ovarian torsion that left me in and out of the emergency room when Ollie was born and eventually led to two emergency surgeries and the loss of my ovary, fear resurfaced in a different way.
After that health trauma, I developed intense health anxiety. Fear replayed in my mind like a broken record.
What if this happens?
What if that is true?
What if something is wrong with you?
I remember journaling one night that my mind felt like a jail cell I could not escape.
I truly believed something was wrong with me. But that was the lie.
There is a very real battle for our minds, and the enemy wanted me to remain in chains.
What Spiritual Warfare Really Is
Spiritual warfare is the unseen battle described in Scripture. First Peter 5:8 tells us to be alert and sober minded because our enemy prowls around looking for someone to devour.
The enemy’s primary weapon is not dramatic.
It is lies.
You are broken.
God was not there for you.
You will never change.
You are stuck like this forever.
If we agree with those lies, they begin to shape our reality.
The Battle Begins in the Mind
The enemy targets your thoughts first.
If he can shape your thinking, he can influence everything else.
But here is the truth that changed my life.
Just because you have a thought does not mean it is true.
Just because a thought is loud does not mean it has authority.
You have been given authority, weapons, and spiritual armor. You have to use them.
Signs You May Be in a Battle
Spiritual attacks are not always loud. Often they are subtle.
You may notice:
• A loss of passion for God
• Confusion about your purpose
• Constant anxious or doubtful thoughts
• Unusual discouragement or exhaustion
• Strong urges to quit what God called you to do
• Being pulled back toward old struggles
• Frustration or comparison
I have learned that when you are walking in purpose, you are a threat.
Thieves do not break into empty houses.
Right before breakthrough, resistance often increases.
That does not mean you are failing. It may mean you are advancing.
Four Steps That Changed Everything
A mentor once shared four simple steps with me that completely transformed how I respond to mental and spiritual battles.
1. Repent
The enemy cannot force you to sin, but he can present lies.
Repentance here means turning away from agreeing with the lie.
If the thought says, You are hopeless, respond with, Lord, I repent for agreeing with that lie.
Bringing lies into the light removes their power.
2. Rebuke
Jesus gave believers authority in His name.
Sometimes I will literally say, In Jesus’ name, fear must go. Comparison does not belong here.
This is not about being dramatic. It is about using the authority Christ has given you.
James 4:7 tells us to resist the devil and he will flee.
3. Replace
You cannot simply remove a lie. You must replace it with truth.
The Word of God is described as a sword in Ephesians 6. It is a weapon.
When fear rises, I declare Second Timothy 1:7 over myself. God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
When insecurity creeps in, I remind myself of Psalm 139:14. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Truth disarms lies.
4. Receive
After repenting, rebuking, and replacing, you must receive what God says.
Lord, I receive what You say about me.
Then move forward like it is true, because it is.
Guard What You Allow In
What we consume matters.
Music.
Shows.
Conversations.
Social media.
Relationships.
Not everything is evil, but not everything is helpful.
Freedom requires guarding your heart and mind.
Go to God First
Therapists can help. Friends can encourage. Mentors can guide.
But Jesus is the ultimate healer.
We live in a culture that runs everywhere else before running to God.
He is the source of restoration.
Take every voice, even this one, back to Him.
Obedience Is Protection
One of the hardest lessons I have learned is that disobedience can place us in unnecessary battles.
When God speaks, obey.
Even when it is uncomfortable.
Even when it does not make sense.
Obedience positions you under His covering.
If You Are Struggling Today
If you are walking through anxiety, intrusive thoughts, discouragement, doubt, or fear, hear me clearly.
You are not crazy.
You are not weak.
You are not beyond hope.
You are in a battle.
And sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take the next right step.
Open your Bible.
Turn off what is feeding fear.
Speak truth out loud.
Freedom is not always one dramatic moment. Often it is daily obedience. Daily truth. Daily surrender.
Peace is possible.
Joy is possible.
Freedom is possible.
It begins by choosing truth, one thought at a time.
You are not alone. God is fighting for you and with you.
Stand firm in the truth.
I'm praying for you! xo Katie
