“He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" -Mark 4:40
When we think about a "storm" in our lives, we often think of a season of difficulty, or a trial much like we are experiencing as a nation currently; However, I think often times we forget that there can also be a storm in our hearts and minds when we find ourselves worried, anxious, and afraid.
Regardless of the type of storm, God truly wants us to remain at peace, even in the midst of difficult times. If we are going to remain at peace, we must remain confident in God and His ability to calm the storms in our lives. In the fourth chapter of Mark, the disciples were in a boat with Jesus when a terrible storm broke out. The disciples began to look at the wind and the waves and they became panicked. Jesus, who was sleeping at the time, was awoken by the disciples who were crying out and begging for Him to save them. Jesus rebuked the disciples, asking why they were still so afraid. After all, the very one who controls the wind and waves was there in the boat with them!
Likewise, when we start to look at the wind and the waves in our own lives, we begin to take our eyes off of the very creator of our lives. We lose sight of how great our God is and His mighty power to work on our behalf when we trust in Him. Instead of becoming filled with fear, worry, or doubt during the storms of life, we must trust that Jesus is in the boat of life with us. He will show us all we need to do to make it safely to the other side when we calm the storm inside our heart and listen for His guidance and direction.
Prayer: “Lord, I trust you. I put my faith in you and your ability to calm the storms in my life. I rest assured that you are guiding me safely through each situation in this life, and I refuse to be afraid. I choose only to place my faith in you, knowing that you are right here with me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
