"Rest in the Lord; wait patiently for him to act. Don't fret and worry β it only leads to harm." Psalm 37:7-8
"But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." 2 Peter 3:8
"Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
Repeatedly, throughout scripture, we are reminded to trust in God's timing. It is easy to convince our minds that this is the right choice, but when life doesn't work out as planned, it is difficult to persuade our hearts. Have you ever had a plan β an idea of what should happen β and then God suddenly interrupts it? Sometimes itβs a serendipitous encounter, a happy revelation, an opportunity, or an open door. Sometimes though it feels like a "Mac truck took the breath right out of you" type of disruption. It's like a storm that comes from nowhere and disrupts your life's plans. It is so powerful that it leaves you breathless and helpless. Although it feels painful and overwhelming, you know that the storm may be carrying a hidden blessing, and you must find out what it is.
The Ancient Greeks used two words to describe time - "Chronos" and "Kairos." Chronos is quantifiable, measured time (you may recognize it in English from the words "chronological" and "chronicle"). Chronos is the forward-moving time we measure with clocks, watches, and by the years. Kairos refers to the period when the world seems to stop entirely. It is the time of God. Essentially, Chronos refers to linear time, whereas Kairos is deep time.
Those divine moments (whether welcome or not) are the moments where Chronos and Kairos intersect. It is the coexistence of our will with God's infinitely vast knowledge and plans. This reminds us that God is always in control and that His plans are far more reliable than ours. Whenever we experience disruption, we can trust that it is ultimately for our good. He knows what is most beneficial for us and will often intervene in our lives to bring us closer to him.
Many people experience this crossroads in their health journey. The mental images of our ideal bodies make it easy to form a picture of what health should be like in our own lives. When God disrupts our well-laid plans, it can be discouraging. But we must also be confident that God will lead us to wisdom throughout our lives. This is similar to being on a journey requiring a complete map of the route ahead. We have some sense of where we are heading, but detours, surprises, and changes to our plans can be disorienting. In the end, though, we trust that our journey is God's plan and that He will guide us to our destination.
Have you been searching for weight loss wisdom or praying for freedom from disordered eating? You have reached your Kairos moment. Take time to read the blog and resources on Dashing Dish. There you will find God-inspired guidance. Maybe He's slowing you down to help you understand that He is intimately involved in this journey.
Each hair on your head belongs to the Lord. God loved you even before your birth, so when you are tempted to focus on this life's natural, temporal aspects, may he send you a new song of praise to remind you that you are meant for much more than this. Having faith and not sight equips you to move mountains, bring hope and expectancy to a watching world, and accomplish more than you can imagine. Who will stand up today with ready hearts, hands, and feet? Heaven is with you!
I pray that you may sense that you are fulfilling your kingdom's purpose today. May the Holy Spirit flood you with encouragement and fresh fire in places where discouragement and lukewarm faith have prevailed. In honor of His namesake, may the God of Heaven show you a new vision. Max Lucado once said, "Faith is more than believing that God will do what you want. It is believing that God will do what is right."
May the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ fill your heart and give you the courage to pursue God's purpose for your life and trust His glorious timing. He knows what brings health, peace, and hope. May the Lord direct your steps at His appointed time and provide you with the wisdom required to make decisions that honor Him and may His favor rest on you as you step in faith toward your goals. We are praying for you!
