Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus’ death on the cross. At first glance, this might not seem like something to call “good.” But when we look closer, we begin to see that it was on this very day that love was poured out in its purest form.
Jesus, the Son of God—perfect, holy, and blameless—chose to take on the punishment we deserved. He willingly laid down His life, taking our place so that we could be restored to a right relationship with God.
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." (John 15:13)
That is what Jesus did. For you. For me. For the whole world.
Jesus, Our Redeemer
Throughout Scripture, God is called our Redeemer. To redeem means to buy back, to rescue, to restore what was lost. And that’s exactly what Jesus did on the cross.
He didn’t come to condemn us—He came to save us.
He didn’t come to shame us—He came to restore us.
Jesus didn’t just remove the penalty of sin—He gave us new life, new hope, and new identity as beloved children of God.
Why It Matters Today
In a world that feels heavy, chaotic, and broken, the message of Good Friday is still as powerful and relevant as ever: You are loved. You are seen. You are worth redeeming.
No mistake is too great, no past too messy, no heart too far gone for the redeeming love of Jesus.
The cross reminds us that God didn’t stay far away—He came close. And through His sacrifice, He made a way for us to walk in freedom and grace.
A Moment to Reflect
As you go about this Holy Week, take a moment to pause and allow the truth of the cross to sink in. Let it remind you of how deep and wide the love of God truly is.
And remember—Sunday is coming. The story doesn’t end in the grave. Resurrection is on the horizon!
A Prayer for Good Friday:
Jesus, thank You for the cross. Thank You for Your incredible love that chose sacrifice so that I could be set free. Help me to remember today that I am fully known, fully forgiven, and fully loved by You. Teach me to live in the freedom You’ve given me. In Your name, amen.
