Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. - Matthew 6:31-33
There are so many things that grab for our attention and devotion: our jobs, our kids, our spouses, our hobbies—the demands and distractions of life are everywhere!
Being a working mom, I know how easy it can be to get priorities out of order if I don’t purposefully keep them in line; But one thing I have found to be true time and time again is that when I keep God first, family second, and allow Him to guide my priories in my day, we find that peace and blessings flow instead of stress and striving!
I think we all have a natural tendency to do things our own way, and think that we can do it ourselves… just think back to when you were a little kid learning independence! The problem with our “way” is that apart from God it will always tend to move towards taking care of “self” rather than caring for others, then trusting God to take care of us.
It can also be a challenge to not fall into distractions, and even idolatry, especially with social media and phones constantly at our fingertips, which can easily draw our attention away from our God-given purpose.
So what is the answer to keeping our priorities in order? It's a daily choice to serve God with our whole heart and make Him first in our life. He wants to guide us, show us our next steps, give us wisdom, and fill us with joy and peace as we trust in Him; But we are the ones that have to decide to let Him lead!
I can speak from experience when I say that all of the busyness and distractions don’t compare to the blessings and peace that flow when we put God first!
