My husband, Sean, and I met in high school. What started as a simple dance invite turned into a nearly seven-year relationship before he proposed during a family trip to Disney. We married in 2009, filled with excitement for our future together. While our journey has been filled with blessings, we've also faced tough seasons, as every couple does.
The struggles we’ve faced over the past 16 years haven’t always been just natural life challenges, but at times, they’ve felt like direct attacks on our marriage. I’m convinced the enemy targets marriages, especially when God is at the center. But God doesn’t leave us defenseless—He gives us the tools we need to protect and strengthen our marriage.
One of the most powerful tools? Prayer.
I can’t emphasize enough how prayer, especially when based on God’s promises, has transformed my marriage. I began praying for Sean, our relationship, and myself, asking God to help me become the wife He created me to be. Over time, I witnessed the changes that God’s Word brought into our lives, and even more powerfully, when Sean and I prayed together, the transformation was profound.
Praying Scripture over our marriage has been one of the most impactful decisions I’ve ever made. It aligns us with God's will and provides peace during difficult times. God’s promises never fail, and when we pray them over our relationship, we invite His blessing and protection into our marriage.
I believe God has incredible plans for every marriage, and prayer is a vital part of walking in His purpose!
If you are not yet married, but hope to be one day, I encourage you to start praying for your husband now! There is nothing more powerful than praying for the man that God has made for you! If you are married, I pray God's blessings over your marriage!
Here are some of my favorite books on prayer that can help get you started!
No matter what season you're in, I encourage you to turn to God’s Word for specific prayers for your marriage. Whether you're facing struggles or celebrating victories, God's promises offer a way through. And remember, when you and your spouse pray together, you’re strengthening the foundation of your marriage in powerful ways. xo Katie
