I recently received a question on how I store my foods that I meal prep! Today I"m sharing how I meal prep different foods I make in advance for the week, how I store them, and how long they are good for! I hope this makes meal prep even more simplified! Here's how I meal prep produce, meat, pasta, and baked goods, and how I store them for the week!
Produce
How do you meal prep produce?
For produce, I often meal prep one of two ways, depending on the type of produce. I always wash (with a homemade half vinegar half purified water wash) and dry my produce when I meal prep, but sometimes that is as far as I go. If it is something that will last for a few days in the fridge once cut, then I will slice or dice it, and possibly even take it a step further and roast it, but most of the time I wait to cook any produce when I am prepping my recipe during the week.
How do you store it?
I typically store produce in a plastic Tupperware or glass mason jar. If I am using a Tupperwear, I will use a paper towel in the container to absorb excess moisture which keeps it fresh for longer.
How long is it good for?
I find my produce (if washed with vinegar and stored properly), stays good for 5-7 days in my refrigerator.
Meat
How do you meal prep meat?
Ground Turkey or Beef: For ground meat, I either cook it in a saute pan to add to a recipe later in the week, or form it into patties to make burgers. If I'm using it for a recipe such as meatloaves, I wont do anything in advance until I'm ready to make the recipe.
Chicken: If I have frozen chicken, I will put it in my crockpot or instant pot to make shredded chicken for the week. If I have fresh chicken breasts, I might cut it into cubes to add to a recipe throughout the week.
Sausage: If I am using sausage for a recipe, I often slice it to add to recipes throughout the week.
Fish: I typically wait until I'm ready to prepare the recipe to prepare fish, unless it's frozen, in which I would place it in the fridge the night before cooking it.
How do you store it?
I store cooked or prepped meat in my Tupperware containers.
How long is it good for?
I have found meat, once cooked, stays good for up to 5 days in my fridge.
Pasta
How do you meal prep pasta?
Most of the time when it comes to pasta, rice, or quinoa, I prepare it during meal prep by boiling it until it is just tender, then I rinse it with cold water in a colander. I then drizzle avocado oil over the pasta, making sure it is lightly coated in the oil which prevents it from sticking.
How do you store it?
I store my prepared pasta in large Tupperware containers.
How long is it good for?
Prepared pasta stays good in the fridge for 5-7 days.
Baked Goods
How do you meal prep baked goods?
I meal prep baked goods in double batches. This means less baking and more prepared food overall! I freeze one, and refrigerate the other.
How do you store it?
Once completely cooled (very important), I will store my baked goods in a large Tupperware container.
How long is it good for?
Baked goods stay good in the fridge for up to two weeks, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
I hope this makes meal prep a little easier! xo Katie
