If 2020 has taught me anything; it has been that life can change in an instant. But if there is one thing I have learned through it all, was that my health didn’t have to take a back seat when life gets unpredictable. In fact, it’s helped me focus more on the way I take care of my body through healthy eating and keeping up with my exercise routine. I learned that even though the world around me is changing that my health being a priority doesn’t have to. Here are some great practical tips to help you through each season.
Evaluate your current situation. It’s always important to sit and evaluate where you are at physically, mentally and spiritually. With each passing day all of these things can change and can have an effect, either positive or negative, on our health and wellness. Take time to journal some of your pitfalls and praises. Some questions to ask yourself are, what major life events are going on? What lies about food do I believe? How frequently do I spend time in the word? Do I eat out each day?
The list is truly endless but if you struggle with understanding your current situation I highly encourage you to pray God reveals to you what areas you can improve in.
Pray for Success. One of the biggest changes for me when it came to my health and wellness was involving our Lord and Savior in the process. For so many years I tried to change myself, which was the first problem – I was trying to fix myself. I decided this journey through health had to be different and I knew the only way to change was if God himself had his hand in it. Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have in our journeys that I highly encourage you to reach out each and everyday to God and have him help you with any struggle you bring to him.
Anticipate the Pitfalls. We all know there are going to be pitfalls in our journeys. We all have weaknesses and stresses – we are human. So identify what those are and have a plan in place before you reach one. This way you know exactly how to handle it before it happens. For example – if you know you have a big move coming up, make a list of the ways you can combat potential triggers. Have healthy snacks pre portioned out, make some meals ahead of time and store them in the freezer for easy dinners and more!
Reflect. Reflection is a good place to give thanks to God for all he’s doing in your life. So frequently we focus on the sin in the world, the sin from inconsistencies and ourselves and forget to reflect on all of the ways you didn’t hesitate to obey God on your journey. Reflect on the ways you broke food boundaries, made homemade meals and use the time to connect with loved ones, nourished your body with exercise or movement and more. This is a great way to open the door to consistent communication with God.
So while we don’t ever know what the world has in store for us, we can be confident in knowing what God has in store for us, and that is a life of joy and fulfillment. With him we truly have all we need and could ever imagine. Because, navigating through a season of change doesn’t have to be done alone.
