All throughout scripture we can see examples of different men and women who received a promise because they prayed in faith and knew God was faithful to His word. We can see this clearly when looking at Abraham. God gave him a promise that he would become the father of many nations when his wife was well past the age to bear children. (They were both about 100 years of age). Abraham had no reason in the natural to believe God, and to be quite honest, if he looked at his circumstances, he surely had reason to doubt.
Yet Abraham didn’t let his circumstances sway him. He ended up receiving the promise because he knew God was faithful to bring His word to pass. The Bible tells us that this type of faith brought glory to God, and because of it, Abraham was counted as righteous (Romans 4:20-21). Just like Abraham, we too can have full assurance that God is faithful to His promises. No matter what we see going on around us, we must have full assurance that He is able to do what He said in His word.
When we pray according to the Word, we can have the assurance of Abraham, no matter what we are facing, because we are praying Gods promises to us! Praying God's word brings faith and boldness, knowing that we are praying His will into every situation. 1 John tell us, "This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.” (vs 14-15 ) This brings assurance that whatever we are praying for in in accordance with His Word will come to pass in His perfect timing!
When we want to pray God's promises, the most powerful thing we could ever do is ask God to show us promises in His word concerning our situation, and seek until we find. When He shows us His word about our situation personally, it is powerful because it comes from a place of relationship and develops trust. However, there is no wrong way to stand on God's promises, and they are for all of His children! So, if you need help finding scriptures to pray, it can be as easy as searching according to your bibles table of contents, or searching on the internet for promises on a specific matter.
Praying powerful prayers starts with a relationship with God, and coming to know and trust His character. This begins by knowing who He is, and what He has promised you, which is found in His word! When God makes a promise, He keeps it! Begin to pray His promises over your life today, and see the power of the Word of God go to work!
