“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
Busyness is sneaky. I don't find myself feeling overwhelmed overnight. The busyness builds until I find myself buried beneath heaps of deadlines, to-do's, occasions, and preoccupations. The last several months have been hectic for me. I've taken on more clients. My kids are at a peak busy stage of life, having someplace to be nearly every evening or weekend. I've intentionally gotten out into my new community to build relationships, which requires a time commitment.
The delicate balance about busyness is that it's often wrapped up in blessings, not burdens. You enjoy the gift of a full life when seemingly without warning, you've blessed yourself straight out of margin for rest and replenishment. Last month, I noticed how brief my time with the Lord had become. My spirit felt it. In the name of efficiency, I'd cut short the most important moments of my entire day to fit more in.
This backward order of priorities always leaves us empty. It's tempting to allow achieving to surpass renewing and refreshing. Don't make this mistake. When we choose God, time in His word and time in His presence first, all other details are provided for and supernaturally fall into place. When we give Him our time, He increases our capacity. Investing in our spirit is always the priority. The Lord divinely multiplies it in ways that only He can make much out of little, provide a smooth path for our feet, and bring order to our agenda. May we choose Him first today.
