Let’s chat about blood sugar control and why it’s important. One of the first things I learned when I started studying nutrition was the importance of balancing blood glucose levels- YES- even if you’re not a diabetic!
There are many reason it’s so important, but just to name a few..Blood glucose balance affects your energy levels, your ability to balance hormones (insulin actually is a hormone), and it greatly affects your ability to reach and maintain a healthy weight!
This was why I started cutting out sugar and white processed foods when I was learning to eat in a way that made my body feel its best. It was also why I started incorporating protein and fiber in all of my meals and snacks. I can honestly say it was one of the most important things I centered my focus of nutrition on, even after all these years.
If I were to teach women one of the best things they could focus on, it wouldn’t be low carb, high protein, or even clean eating. It would be learning to balance your blood sugar. Eating to maintain balanced blood glucose levels will naturally lend itself to eating real foods and balanced plates, which goes back to Gods design!
If I were to tell someone the first place to start, I would encourage them to learn about the glycemic index chart and where foods fall on that chart. When eating foods that are high on the glycemic index, pair them with protein and fiber. Also, aim for lower glycemic index foods in the majority of your meals.
Dashing Dish is a great place to start, as all the recipes are founded off this principle, which is why you won’t see any white flour or sugar! We have even had many testimonies of people recovering from type two diabetes while using Dashing Dish! I pray these recipes and resources are a blessing to you on your journey to health! xo Katie
