What if I told you that one question had the potential to impact your destiny? Would you ask yourself that question? The question that I believe has the power to shape our future is: How do you see yourself? Not only in the mirror- but on the inside? The reason this question is so powerful is because I don’t believe that we will ever be able to move beyond the mental images we have of ourselves if we don’t ever stop to take an inventory of our thought life. For many years I allowed my imagination to spiral downward without even recognizing it; Agreeing with thoughts of failure rather than God’s promises; And as I did- I saw my life heading in that same direction of defeat.
I didn’t start to see victory in my life until I started to dive into God’s word daily and make agreements with what He says about me. The Bible encourages us to think on those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, and anything that is excellent or worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8). This is essentially the tool by which we can measure our thought life. As we examine our lives and the fruit that is being produced, we can almost always trace areas of defeat, setbacks, and failure back to a negative thought process.
Although we live in a world that bombards us with lies, cares, and messages that are contrary to the truth, God has given us the word of truth to uproot and replace every thought that doesn’t belong. The first place to start is begin to carefully check every word, image, and experience at the door of our minds, asking ourselves, “Does this produce thoughts that are lining up with the Word of God?”
As we keep our thoughts in check and replace those that don’t bring life- and replace them with truth- we will find ourselves walking out God’s perfect will in our lives, according to Romans 12:2! Renewing our minds can be done by reading, studying, meditating, and praying the word of God; And keeping our minds fixed on His promises.
