“ The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. ”John 6:63
As a new year unfolds, it’s natural to think about what we want to add. Better habits, healthy routines, building faith. But sometimes the most life giving thing we can do isn’t adding at all. It’s letting go.
Jesus reminds us that life doesn’t come from striving harder in our own strength. The flesh profits nothing. It is the Spirit who gives life. That truth invites us to release the things we have been carrying that were never meant to be ours in the first place.
So before you rush ahead, pause and ask
What is God inviting me to lay down?
Let go of striving.
That quiet pressure to do better, fix it faster, or finally get it right. Growth in the Kingdom isn’t powered by exhaustion. It is fueled by surrender. What God begins, He sustains.
Let go of control
The constant mental rehearsing. The what ifs. The need to manage outcomes. Trust doesn’t mean you stop caring. It means you stop carrying what only God can hold.
Let go of comparison.
Someone else’s season, pace, body, home, calling, or success was never meant to be your measuring stick. Grace meets you where you are, not where you think you should be.
Let go of guilt from the past
Mistakes you have already repented of don’t need to be repaid for. Conviction leads to freedom. Condemnation keeps you stuck. Jesus didn’t save you so you could live weighed down.
Let go of fear about the future.
Fear pretends to prepare you, but it only drains you. God’s faithfulness doesn’t end at the edge of the unknown. He goes ahead of you. When we loosen our grip on these things, our hands are finally free to receive what God wants to give. Peace, clarity, rest, and life.
We don’t need more effort this year.
We need more yielding.
More listening.
More trusting.
More room for the Spirit to do what only He can do.
I have been reflecting on these points lately…
What have I been striving to control instead of surrendering?
What thought patterns or habits has God been nudging me to release?
What would change if I trusted the Spirit to lead instead of pushing myself forward?
If Your With me, Lets Pray!
Lord, I release what I was never meant to carry.
I let go of striving, fear, comparison, and control.
Teach me to live from Your Spirit, not my own strength.
Fill the empty spaces with Your life, Your peace, and Your truth. In Jesus Name, Amen.
