"Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds." Psalm 105:1-2
I don't know about you, but sometimes I get overwhelmed by thoughts of needing to "do better." I feel like I'm constantly assessing myself to see how I measure up more in the sight of the Lord. I take inventory of all I deem in "need of improvement." It's overwhelming. It often feels like more than I can do. It's overwhelming because it IS more than I can do. I simply can't do well enough to earn the Father's approval. It's why I need a Savior! Thankfully at the hands of grace, I don't need to. Knowing this doesn't always change my sense of restlessness, though. I had a freeing moment in the Psalms one morning that has really helped with my performance syndrome. If, like me, you are a "doer" and struggle with an unsettled spirit that seeks to "do for" the Lord, I pray this revelation will help bring you peace through action that truly doesn't bring Him joy.
Praise
Start with praise! No matter what the condition of your circumstance, if the condition of your heart can find a reason to praise, you are within reach of His grace. Find something, anything. Start with something small if you must. Or rely on someone else's strength and simply sing the words of a worship song along with them. When we can maintain a posture of worship in all things, we bring glory and gladness to the King.
Affirm
Assure your heart of His goodness. Recite His faithfulness. Recount His blessings! Affirm how incredibly, overwhelmingly, fiercely faithful He proves to be every single day. Speak peace to your soul, and then speak your truth to those around you! Recall His promises and remind your spirit that every single one proves true. Affirm His goodness.
Testify
There is nothing more powerful in the pursuit of renewing our mind than testifying of God's good, gracious, tender will! The more you speak, the more you reap. The more you tell of the Joy-Maker, the more joy you perceive. The more you promote the Prince of Peace, the more peace you revel in. The more you tell the whole world of the good He has done, the more good you notice. The more you testify of the Lord, the more you experience Him.
May you perform the only authentic, holy, righteous kind of action the Lord desires from you, the promotion of Christ to a spiritually-starving world. Peace to you.
