“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’” Isaiah 6:8
I’m reflecting today on four simple words, “Here I am, Lord.” Simply said, yet sometimes putting feet to them is difficult, isn’t it? I consider the men of the Bible who have willing stood before the Lord and willingly offered their voices and hearts. Yes, Lord, it’s me you’re looking for. Here I am.
Perhaps the most astonishing example is Abraham, who, when asked to offer his only first-born son, didn’t run, didn’t puff-up and take control of things his way, and didn’t deny God. He said to God; I am ready to trust you, prepared to obey, and willing to lay the most sacred sacrifice on the altar. I marvel at that kind of faith and commitment. It causes me to ask myself if God calls me, is my response, here I am?
If I’m asked to lay down what’s most sacred, here I am? When faced with opposing what the world cherishes in trade for standing for Christ, am I chopping at the bit, saying, “Yes, Lord, here I am. Send me!”? I ask you today. Are you ready to move when the Lord says move, speak when He commands speak, surrender when He says surrender?
Fast forward to the end of the sacrificial story of Abraham. The same God who asked Abraham to trust Him to the point of excruciating sacrifice is the same God who provided the rescue. May we be women ready to trust, obey, serve, and surrender today. Will you say with me, “Lord, here I am. Send me.”?
