“So, here’s what I want you to do, God helping you, take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2 The Message (MSG)
When my kids were very young, it often felt like the most impactful part of my day was limited to wiping up messes and singing Sesame Street jingles. I had a hard time keeping the perspective that I, a stay-at-home mom, covered in spit-up and weary to the bone, could ever make any significant contribution to the Kingdom of Heaven. I watched as others would propel themselves into meaningful ministries. Meanwhile, I barely stayed afloat amidst the overwhelming needs in my own little world. One day though, God used today’s verse to really encourage me and help shift my mindset. I realized that if I infused purpose into my everyday, ordinary life it could be a beautiful offering to the Lord. At that time I wasn’t called to change the world, I was called to change the diapers of the ones who would. I also had an opportunity to glorify God by intentionally, purposefully, and contentedly taking good care of myself so I could pour into the precious lives I’d been entrusted with. The Lord was asking me to embrace my purpose in THAT moment, and in THAT season of my life.
Maybe you’re in a season that makes it difficult to dream? Maybe it’s challenging to imagine and identify how you can serve the Kingdom and glorify God? Maybe it’s not small children, but simply a lack of time? Maybe you feel like your health or body is standing in your way? Maybe you tend to overlook ways you can serve Him in everyday life because you believe your contribution needs to be great and measurable? Wherever you are today, let me assure you of this – God will use you right where you’re at if you’ll let Him. God’s Word encourages you to take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking around life—and place it before Him as an offering. In what ways can you take seemingly insignificant moments or parts of your day and create a beautiful offering to the Lord? He alone can make little much and magnify it exponentially for His glory. What will you bring Him today?
