“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for, in due season, we will reap if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
I’ve noticed a bit of an epidemic lately. Maybe you have too? I’m part of an online group of local moms. There is an overwhelming theme among them. Loneliness, overwhelm, anxiety, stress, and a desperate search for balance. More than ever, women seem to feel as though they are drowning. I suspect several reasons for this, but the rescue seems completely allusive for many.
My heart ached as I prayed about this a couple of mornings ago. I asked the Lord how, as a community of believers, can we as women be His hands and feet to other hurting sisters. As I prayed, I heard the Lord whisper, “Show goodness.” My spirit nodded in agreement as I considered the knowledge that we are to be holy as He is holy. Our gracious God pours out blessings that we may bless others. He loves us as we are to love others. And he displays His goodness that we may become good like Him.
I believe that the “cure” to the epidemic plaguing us may just be found in minute moments of goodness and grace. We don’t need to perform grand acts of ministry to change the world. We simply need to be ready to say yes to small opportunities to bear God’s goodness to a hungry world. How can you offer a small act of goodness to someone who needs it today? How can you reveal the heart of Jesus through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, extension of grace, or sacrifice of time and treasure? Today, may we be Jesus to a desperately seeking world. Amen?
