Scripture: Read Psalm 46
Reflection: Does life feel a bit overwhelming right now? Is there a restlessness in your spirit? You're not alone. Perhaps now, more than ever before, finding rest in God is the key to enjoying true peace and soul-stillness. So, how do we find rest in God in the midst of life's storms? According to Psalm 46, the answer lies in two key ways we can trust in God's promises; Surrender and Pause.
The Psalm opens with a love letter from the Father to our hearts. It's full of promises. Promises for protection, strength, holy confidence. help, and peace to those who believe. The Passion Translation has an excellent way of displaying how surrender and pause leads to rest in God. It says:
Surrender your anxiety!
Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God.
I am the God above all the nations,
and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth.
Here he stands!
The Commander!
The mighty Lord of Angel Armies is on our side!
The God of Jacob fights for us!
Pause in his presence
When we take the time to not only surrender our cares and anxieties at His feet, but also pause to spend time in His presence, our hearts are quieted with His love and we are reminded of His awesome power! It is in that place of stillness that we can stop our striving and let God be God; Awesome, mighty, and worthy of praise. Able to fight and defend us, and rescue us from all that troubles our hearts.
Do you have a restless anxious heart today? God is inviting you to be still, and know that He is God.
Prayer: Faithful and present Father, I ask that you would help me surrender my anxiety, and to take the quite time that is needed every day to be still and rest in you. Thank You that You are my ever-present help in time of need. Equip me to stand fast in your promises, and to trust in Your Word despite all that is going on in my life. Today and every day forward, help me to choose to pause in your presence, for it is there that I can find rest for my soul. In you I find confidence, knowing that you protect me, fight for me, and strengthen me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
