Scripture: "...I trust [have confidence in] God’s love [loyalty] forever and ever. God, I will thank [praise] you forever for what you have done. With those who worship you [his loyal ones/saints], I will trust [put my confidence in] you because you are good." Psalm 52:8-9
Reflection: Do you journal? The question may evoke an array of emotions and responses. Some will emphatically say, "Yes!" Others of you may roll your eyes and think, "Why is everyone always talking about journaling?" Maybe you fall somewhere in between? No matter how you feel about the idea of journaling, today I want to encourage you to consider viewing it in a different light. If you've had an aversion to the idea of journaling because you have the preconceived notion that it means eloquently pouring your heart out page after page (any "When Calls the Heart" fans out there? You don't have to be an Elizabeth!), let me assure you that's not always the case! Today, I want to encourage you to try just journaling (simply writing down) daily ways God has blessed you, come through for you, answered specific prayers, done a miracle, or displayed His love and loyalty to you or others. This exercise is a profound way to remember (meditate on) God's goodness. Recording milestone moments in your life is a powerful way to strengthen your faith. When things are smooth sailing it's easy to take God's goodness for granted. When things get bumpy though, it's equally easy to doubt His goodness. Keeping record of His constant faithfulness provides testimony to assure your own heart and spirit of what God has done in the past. Remembering His goodness strengthens us to steadfast faith and in difficult times, reminds us that He is still on the throne. You'll recount the ways He's been your confidence and never failed you. You'll think about the ways God made a way where there seemed to be no way. If you've never journaled, start today by simply keeping record of what the Lord has done for you. His promises always stand, His word always proves true. He's shown up big for you before, He'll do it again!
Prayer: For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And, I will hope in your name, for your name is good! (Ps 52:9) Lord, every good gift I have is from you. You, my God, supply my every need according to your riches in Christ Jesus. Your blessing makes me rich and you add no sorrow to it. You lead me beside still and peaceful waters and cause me to lie down in peace and comfort. You restore my soul. You give me hope and a good future. Every single day you provide for me, Lord. You are the God of miracles, I've witnessed them! Lord, will you help me to discipline myself to keep record of your good and faithful presence in my life? I desire to give you praise daily and I know that recalling your goodness will help me to do that. I always desire to be strong in you Lord and when the seas of life toss me a bit, looking back and assuring my heart of your goodness will serve as an anchor. Thank you for the privilege of praise. In Jesus name, I pray, amen.
