Scripture: "Our purpose is to please God, not people. He is the One who examines the motives of our hearts." 1 Thessalonians 2:4
Reflection: When it comes to weight loss and healthy living, one of the most important steps we can take is establishing what I call a "sustainable why." It's so easy to make our "why"something temporary like feeling good in a swimsuit for summer, looking good for a wedding or reunion, or fitting back into our skinny jeans, this list goes on and on. When we really peel away our motives though, those aren't truly sustainable motives for lasting change. And, if we're really honest they aren't the purest motivation either. When we are sincerely able to make the glory of God our motivation for caring well for our bodies, we are truly free. When you are tempted to feel overly aware of your body (even in good ways), simply stop and take those thoughts captive to Jesus. In those moments, gently remind yourself that your purpose in making choices is to please God. Commit to pure, holy motives for living well. If you keep your eyes on the Jesus and glorifying Him you are guaranteed success and lasting change.
Prayer: Lord, I completely believe that with the renewal of mind also comes renewed motives of my heart. Lord, I desire in the deepest part of my soul to desire your approval and to please you, above anyone else! Lord, will you increase in me a desire and the ability to choose to please and glorify you above all else in every area of my life? I know and I declare, Lord, that as I seek out and focus on holy motives for reaching my goal weight and increasing my health through my daily choices that I will enjoy your blessing on it and it is done to your glory in Christ Jesus. It's in your saving name, I pray. Amen.
