"Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things, and give me life in your ways." Psalm 119:37
How my eyes are prone to wander! This verse from my very favorite Psalm has been echoing in my mind over and over lately. We all know that sin is easily conceived with one simple look. But, what about merely worthless things? That's more accurate for me. Do you relate? I don't necessarily fall into blatant sin with a glace, but more a habitual loss of time, energy, and focus looking at flat worthless things.
Facebook! A huge offender! Pinterest! Yep, I'm looking at you, "Products to Try" board! Even offline, it is so easy to be swept up in wants and discontentment as I stroll through Target. Or, fall into the pit of comparison admiring the woman in front of me in Pilates class.
Ladies, when it comes to the subtle sacrifice of our very best use of time, talent, and treasure, the eyes definitely have it! What we look at feeds what we give thought to. And, as we well know our thoughts do indeed determine our direction. Simply becoming incredibly particular about what we allow to capture our attention and gaze goes a long way toward saving squandered blessings and the gift of life God gives us when we fix our eyes on Him instead.
Today, will you try this simple exercise. Try simply looking up! Caught up on your phone? Look up! Tempted to compare yourself to those around you? Look up? Feeling a little discouraged? Look up! Our mind is changed and our life refreshed when we literally and figuratively look up to our One Source of strength. He deserves your undivided attention and He will never leave you dry! Have a life-giving day!
