“Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2
How much time do you spend on transforming your mind? Most of us spend a great deal of thought and time on transforming our bodies. Do you know though, that when you commit to healing your mind first, your body will follow? The world tells us to go about change in the opposite order. So often we're told, "Change your body and you will be happy and free." The Word of God tells us differently! 1 Peter 1:13, tells us to, “Think clearly and exercise self-control.” We must first renew our MINDS and then exercise self-control. For self-control to endure, our mind must be right and renewed. Seek an understanding of who God says you are! Spend time focusing on and declaring who you are in Him! To enjoy true, lasting freedom and change, be purposeful about four things:
• Declare daily – out loud – who you are in Christ (If you need help, use these scriptures!). Speaking the truth of God's Word over yourself is the most powerful and effective tool for change!
• Write out Romans 12:2 on sticky notes and post them EVERYWHERE.
• Be aware of your thoughts. When you have a negative thought, immediately take it captive to the Lord and declare who you are in Christ.
• Persevere…..keep going with this, it takes a little time but it WILL work! It was for freedom that Christ set us free! You will be free!
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for revealing yourself to me in your Word. Thank you that you desire to bless me with riches, freedom, and peace that is found in you alone. Thank you that you promise to renew my mind as I seek you. Lord, help me to see myself the way you see me. Help me to trust that as I pursue greater knowledge of who you say I am that I will be free from disordered eating and disordered thinking. Thank you that even now you are working all things together for my good. You are leading me to my perfect weight. And, perhaps most importantly, you are leading me to a healthy mind and spirit. In Jesus name, I pray, amen.
