“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Generosity is a gift from God. Generosity is an act of worship when the posture of our heart is full of cheer. A generous life serves the Lord with time, talent, and treasure, all to lend itself to the work of Him who provides it. I’ve been convicted lately to examine my sense of generosity. I encourage and admonish my kids toward open-handed living, but am I leading by example? Do I keep too tight a fist on financial blessings? Am I too protective of my time and need to make a margin for kingdom purpose “yes’s?” Do I use the skills, giftings, and talents the Lord has knit into me to make an impact every opportunity I get? I want my answer to be a resounding yes. A yes that is demonstrated and not merely spoken. Today, I pray that we, as lovers of a generous God, will serve him well.
Has He poured into your lap financially? Ask, “Lord, will you make me generous with my money and show me how, where, and when to give.” Do you have time to walk alongside women desperately in need of friendship and stewardship? Pray, “Lord, will you make me generous with my time and reveal to me by your spirit where to invest it.” Do you have gifts, skills, and talents that are uniquely yours and potentially just the answers to someone else’s prayer? Amazing! Ask your generous Jesus, “Lord, will you make me generous and use me to make a powerful and purposeful impact for your kingdom?” These are prayers the Lord LOVES to answer, and in return, your harvest of blessing will increase. Enjoy a generous, cheerful day before both God and men today!
