Do you know that the Ancient Greeks had two different words for the concept of time – "Chronos" and "Kairos."

The word "Chronos" (you probably recognize for the English words "chronological" and "chronicle") refers to measured, quantitative time. Chronos is the forward propelling time that we measure with clocks, on watches, and by the years. “Kairos" is what many philosophers refer to as "deep time." This is the time you experience when the world seems to stop entirely. For the sake of comparison, you could say that Kairos is God's time.

Have you ever had a plan, an idea of how things should go, and then seemingly out of nowhere, God interrupts them? Sometimes it's in a serendipitous connection, elated revelation, opportunity, or open doors. Other times it feels like a "Mac truck took the breath right out of you" form of disruption. Those are the moments where Chronos and Kairos intersect. It's the coexistence of our will and the better all-knowing will of God.

Many people experience this crossroads when it comes to their health journey. It's so easy to form ideas of what health should look like in our own lives. We develop mental pictures of our ideal body. We feel convinced that the new plan we've subscribed to is perfect for us. It can feel so discouraging when God disrupts our well-laid plans. Likewise, though, we also must believe that God leads us into all wisdom in every aspect of our lives. Suppose you've stumbled across this post or page today.
