“And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you obey the voice of the Lord your God." Deuteronomy 28:1-2
The world is full of chatter. Never in all of history have we been so constantly battered by the noise of this world. It can overwhelm us if we're not cautious. Without intention, we can find ourselves in constant contact with the many voices that surround us. Not every voice is harmful. Certainly, there is wise counsel to be found in the words of trusted friends. Laughter to be enjoyed in like-hearted conversation with family and friends. Encouragement and inspiration within the scripts of social media. However, like a fowler, this chatter can snare us in a subtle and sneaky trap. We as human beings are experiential, we tend to lean on our experience to help shape our feelings, opinions, and decision-making. Our experiences can become the filter through which we decide what is good, true, and right. When we are besieged by the chatter around us, the risk is that we tend to cling to what agrees with our experiences rather than clinging to ultimate truth and allowing the voice of God to silence all others. Some ways the Lord asks us to obey and trust Him are easy. Others are more challenging, but they are all for our greatest good. Today, you will be surrounded by a million voices, messages, and moments to decide who to listen to. As you do, will you command your soul to rejoice in the goodness of God and listen to the voice of truth? He will never lead you astray. Trust Him, because you can! Bless you, today.
