Scripture: "If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind." James 1:4-6
Reflection: Life is full of decisions, isn't it? Sometimes life requires us to make important decisions with potentially long term impact and that can feel downright scary. The Word of God gives us a promise for those times though that ministers such peace. We never have to face those moments of decision making alone. God gives us supernatural wisdom and guidance when we ask for it. And, He not only gives it, He gives it generously! He loves to help His children and welcomes us with open arms. This verse tells us though that there is a requirement of us to fully enjoy wisdom's promise. We must ask in faith. We must go to the Lord in prayer, asking for guidance through our decisions and circumstances fully expecting Him to answer. He's asking us to bet it all on Him! When the decisions are small that seems easy, but what about the big stuff? When the weight of the world seems to hinge on that big decision, can we still fully trust that God will direct every single step if we ask Him to? Absolutely. He is the God of the Universe. He is the God of the tiniest details, and, He is the God who holds the world in the palm of His hand. He will guide you and give you abundant wisdom and the ability to make decisions both big and small. Simply ask. Then, without fear, doubt, or worry, trust Him and with hopeful expectancy wait for Him to generously answer!
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for your heart toward your children. Thank you that you never leave us or forsake us. Thank you that you profoundly understand the trials this life can throw at us and the insecurity that can accompany decisions we sometimes face. What peace it brings to know that we simply need to ask for help and you generously answer. Thank you for helping guide us through our decisions both big and small. Lord, when we are tempted by doubt, fear, and worry, increase in us a measure of faith that anchors us deeply in your promises. Help us to stand firm in faith and never doubt your goodness. Lord, when we pray, enable us to leave that care or worry at the cross and fully expect your answer. Give us ears to hear you, eyes to see you, and courage to follow you with hopeful expectancy today. In Jesus name, amen.
