“Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:1-2
As a child, my mother used to warn me, “Be careful with your friends. You become like the people you spend most of your time with.” Now that I have my own kids, I am even more aware of this. Choosing our company carefully is critical. Whether consciously or unconsciously, we tend to emulate and act like the people we spend the most time with. Jesus is no different.
As believers, our primary goal is to resemble Jesus. In light of this, it is appropriate to ask ourselves, “How much time do I spend with Him?” When we focus on worldly things such as social media, shopping scrolls, movies, TV, books, etc., we have little chance of becoming more and more like Christ. How can you intentionally "hang out" with Jesus more? Maybe it’s as simple as turning off the radio in your car and just talking to Him. Perhaps it’s reading a devotional instead of scrolling through social media?
Regardless of how this looks for you, I hope you will pray with me, "Lord, give me an insatiable hunger and a longing for more of you." May we all look more like Jesus today.
