Have you ever stopped to think about how your words can affect your health, peace, and overall well-being? I've been reflecting on it lately, especially as I'm on this wellness journey—not just physically but emotionally and spiritually.
We've all heard the phrase, "Your words have power," but have you ever really considered how much impact your words can have on your health and life? Proverbs 18:21 says, "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." That's pretty profound, isn't it? Our words aren't just words; they carry weight. And when we speak words over our lives—whether in conversation, prayer or even in our quiet thoughts—they shape the direction of our lives.
As women, we have a unique ability to nurture, encourage, and uplift those around us. But before we can pour life into others, we need to ensure we speak life over ourselves first. The truth is, we are often our own biggest critics. We might say things like:
"I'll never be healthy."
"I can't do this."
"Why does everything always go wrong for me?"
"I'm so tired; I can't keep up."
Though sometimes said in frustration, fear, or exhaustion, these words have real power. They can pull us further from the abundant life God has promised. But here's the good news: God's Word offers a different story. A better story. It is a story of hope, healing, and victory.
Aligning Our Words with God's Word
So, how do we begin to speak life over ourselves? How do we transform how we talk, especially when we feel overwhelmed or defeated? Here are a few practical ways to make sure our words align with God's truth:
Start with gratitude
When you wake up in the morning, take a moment to thank God for the new day. Your words don't have to be fancy or long-winded. A simple "Thank you, Lord, for this day and the strength you've given me" is enough. Gratitude shifts your perspective and helps you start the day on a positive, God-centered note. And when you speak from a place of gratitude, you're setting a tone of peace and joy for the day ahead.
Speak God's promises over your health.
We often pray for others or situations, but how often do we pray for ourselves, specifically our health and wellness? One powerful way to shift your words is by declaring God's promises over your life. For example:
- "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14)
- "By His stripes, I am healed" (Isaiah 53:5)
- "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). Speak these truths over your life, especially when you're facing a health challenge or feeling discouraged. When we speak God's Word, it can renew our minds and heal our hearts.
Choose words of life, not defeat
It's easy to fall into the trap of complaining or saying negative things about ourselves, especially when we're stressed or tired. But what if we made it a habit to pause before speaking and intentionally choose life-giving words? Instead of saying, "I can't do this," try, "With God's help, I will get through this." Instead of "I'm always exhausted," say, "God is renewing my strength day by day." Words like these might feel small, but over time, they will have a powerful impact on your mindset, body, and spirit.
Declare peace in moments of stress.
We all face stressful moments, and it can be easy to let fear or anxiety take over. But in those moments, remember that you can speak peace into your situation. Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you" (John 14:27). When you feel overwhelmed, declare His peace over your body, mind, and spirit. Speak those words out loud: "I am at peace because God's peace is within me."
Confess your healing, even when it's hard.
This one can be tricky, especially when we're facing physical challenges or health struggles. But speaking healing words, even when we don't feel healed, is an act of faith. God knows your heart, and He honors your faith. When you say things like, "I am healed in Jesus' name" or "Every cell in my body is functioning as God designed it to," you're declaring what is true in the spiritual realm. Even when we can't see it, our faith-filled words set the stage for God's miraculous work in our lives.
Be Kind to Yourself
It's important to remember that change doesn't happen overnight. We might stumble or forget to speak life in certain situations. But that's okay! God's grace is bigger than our missteps. Be kind to yourself in this process. The more you practice speaking life, the easier it will become.
At the end of the day, your words reflect your heart and your heart is where God's love resides. So speak life, health, and hope over yourself and your body. God has designed you for abundance, and as you align your words with His Word, you'll begin to see the beautiful transformation He's creating in you.
I hope you will experience His peace and healing as you speak words of life over yourself today. You are loved, you are capable, and you are more than enough.
