An old English proverb says, “When we’re in a hurry, the Devil is happy.”
Hurry as we may, that thought should certainly be enough to stop us in our tracks and cause a bit of healthy reflection. For most of us, being busy is a way of life. From sunrise to sunset, an undercurrent of hurry drives our culture. So much so that “Hurry Sickness” is now considered a diagnosable condition. Without the careful pursuit of deceleration, our body, mind, and spirit suffer the effects of hurried living.

Are you a slave to diets? Women in general are the primary target for diets, because of the world's pressure on us to conform our bodies to a certain size and image. I'll never forget the first time I mustered up the courage to tell someone that the Lord had delivered me from eating disorders. Saying it aloud felt "risky" somehow, but the moment I spoke of His power, there was a strengthening that left me forever changed. My hesitation grew into a hunger. I began to understand in a new way the promise that we overcome our struggles and sin by the powerful sacrifice of Jesus and the word of our testimony. The more we tell of how Christ frees us, the more...

"Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist." 1 Corinthians 8:6
Father. That name can mean such different things for so many of us. For many, the word Father brings a sense of love and acceptance, security, and tenderness. For others, fear, pain, distrust, or disappointment. Regardless of how you currently feel, it's never too late to know and understand the Father...

Idols are worthless; they are ridiculous lies! On the day of reckoning they will all be destroyed. But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including His people, his own special possession. The Lord of Heavens Armies is his name. Jeremiah 10:15-16
Is your weight an Idol? I’ve had many times in my life when I’ve had to pause and ask myself this question.
Most of us think of idols as wood statues that are worshiped as false Gods, when in reality, an idol is...

"Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for, in due season, we will reap if we do not give up. So then, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone, especially to...

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear], and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

When my daughter Maddie turned three years old we started to desire another baby. Because of our journey with Maddie, we knew our journey may take some time. Month after month passed, and before we knew it, we were celebrating Maddie fourth birthday. When she blew out the candles at her birthday party, she wished for a baby sister. Just about a week later, Maddie told me that there was a baby in my tummy, and when I asked how she knew, she replied, “God told me!” About one week later, I found...

Today's post is a bit of an open letter in the name of encouragement, after a spiritually dry season that occurred shortly after a big move from one state to another. I pray it encourages you if you are experiencing a wilderness season in your walk with God! - Sarah Shaffer
"This isn't home anymore." Driving by myself, those unexpected words came from my lips two years ago. They startled and saddened me. I was a native of my home state. I had two kids comfortably enmeshed in their normal...

God's grace frees us from wearying, self-generated endeavors and releases us to allow the Holy Spirit within "giving us the desire and power to do what pleases Him." (Philippians 2:13)
The other day I had one of those melt-down kind of moments that resulted in me sitting on the kitchen floor in tears. I don’t always share the tears or the hard days, because let’s face it, we all have them! They are a part of life, but I felt led to share this moment because I knew would encourage others!
My...
