Most of us would prepare for a severe storm if we knew it was coming.
Having lived through two Midwest winters, my perspective of storms has changed. If I knew a storm was imminent, I would stock up on food. I would ensure that I had candles, warm clothes, and chargers for my handheld devices. Knowing that a storm is coming provides the opportunity to prepare. It's intuitive for most of us. Interestingly, the emotional eating process and preventing restrictive feelings are remarkably similar,...

I often get asked about my opinion on the “tools" available to us in our journey to health such as tracking, counting, weighing, and journaling as it pertains to food. I believe that although they may be helpful at times, they are only to be used temporarily, not long term, or for life.
The question is this… Do we really think that God made our bodies as intelligent as they are only to have to log things onto an app to be able to eat?
Scales, journals, tracking apps, etc. are tools that can...

“Sometime later, Jesus went to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is a pool in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda[a] and is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Many disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?’” John 5:1-15

We tend to think of cravings as a “bad” thing, but overall, cravings can be our bodies way of telling us they need something we are deficient in. Sometimes cravings are our bodies way of telling us they need more water or rest, or that our stress levels are rising. Tending to those needs are always a great place to start when it comes to caring for our bodies.
On the other hand, if you are craving a specific food, it could be that you are lacking nutrition in a certain area. To ensure your...

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap. For the one who sows to his flesh [his sinful capacity, his worldliness, his disgraceful impulses] will reap from the flesh ruin and destruction, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” Galatians 6:7-8

Idols are worthless; they are ridiculous lies! On the day of reckoning they will all be destroyed. But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including His people, his own special possession. The Lord of Heavens Armies is his name. Jeremiah 10:15-16
Is your weight an Idol? I’ve had many times in my life when I’ve had to pause and ask myself this question.
Most of us think of idols as wood statues that are worshiped as false Gods, when in reality, an idol is...

I was recently looking through some old pictures and came across some of the few taken when I was in the height of my battle with anorexia and bulimia. Every time I see a photo from my teen years, I'm reminded of the redeeming power of God!
This first picture I was battling a silent battle with starvation, and I was exhausted all of the time, and had litter energy for life. In the midst of my storm, one of our family friends gave us a puppy from their litter, and he took to me right away....
