An old English proverb says, “When we’re in a hurry, the Devil is happy.”
Hurry as we may, that thought should certainly be enough to stop us in our tracks and cause a bit of healthy reflection. For most of us, being busy is a way of life. From sunrise to sunset, an undercurrent of hurry drives our culture. So much so that “Hurry Sickness” is now considered a diagnosable condition. Without the careful pursuit of deceleration, our body, mind, and spirit suffer the effects of hurried living.

Are you a slave to diets? Women in general are the primary target for diets, because of the world's pressure on us to conform our bodies to a certain size and image. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap. For the one who sows to his flesh [his sinful capacity, his worldliness, his disgraceful impulses] will reap from the flesh ruin and destruction, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” Galatians 6:7-8

Fasting. It’s a hot topic. While there are some controversial opinions about fasting, most health care experts agree that fasting (when done correctly) provides many physical and emotional benefits. As believers, we know that fasting is a gift with more than physical benefits. From the beginning, God provided fasting as a spiritual tool to help break strongholds, purify ourselves before Him, orient our minds toward Him, and so many other advantages to enjoy spiritual breakthrough and growth....

Last weekend my husband and I saw a comedy show. We laughed so hard, and I nodded emphatically as the comedian talked about the barrage of food allergies and sensitivities known to this generation. He charismatically explained the hierarchy of gluten-free to lactose intolerant to peanuts, the “King Kong” of food allergies. It rang hilariously true. By medical necessity, my family is gluten and egg-free. My daughter is lactose intolerant, as well as a devout vegetarian.
Staying the course in...

Confession. I’ve been a tick “judgey” of other moms. Not intentionally judgey, but judgey nonetheless. Here’s the thing, you don’t know what you don’t know. For years, I’d hear or read moms talk about how they couldn’t get the family around the table for a healthy meal. Or, they didn’t have time to cook for their family, so every meal was on-the-go, making all varieties of fast food, from PB&Js to Popeye’s, a lifeline to keep their family fed.
“How,” I thought, “Can they not find a way to...
